N66 Billion Pledged for Oluremi Tinubu's Food Bank Initiative

At the launch of Oluremi Tinubu's food bank program in Abuja, a total pledge of N66 billion was announced. The private sector contributed significantly, with Aliko Dangote Foundation pledging N20 billion over five years and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) committing N10 billion during the same period.

Other contributions included N500 million from the Emeka Offor Foundation and an anonymous donation of approximately N750 million. The program, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to address malnutrition, a critical public health challenge in Nigeria.

Prof. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, emphasized the importance of adequate nutrition for children and vulnerable populations.

The initiative will establish community-based food banks in every local government area, linking them with primary health care centers. The program is designed to provide nutritious food sources through a voucher system for malnourished children and pregnant or lactating women, with support from the Federal Ministry of Health.
