Oluremi Tinubu Launches N65bn Food Bank Programme

On Thursday, the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated the National Community Food Bank Programme in Abuja, aiming to address hunger and malnutrition across the nation. The initiative has successfully raised N65 billion through various pledges, including N500 million from President Bola Tinubu.

The programme focuses on providing nutritious food to vulnerable children, particularly those under six, as millions of Nigerian children currently lack access to adequate nutrition. The initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and the Bank of Agriculture.

Notable contributions include N20 billion from the Aliko Dangote Foundation and N17 billion from the Nigerian Governors' Forum. The programme is designed to establish a robust food bank system in Nigeria, ensuring no child goes to bed hungry.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of nutrition as a moral imperative and aims to leverage Nigeria's primary healthcare network for effective distribution.
