Gowon to Launch Autobiography on May 19, 2026

General Yakubu Gowon announced the release of his long-awaited autobiography, scheduled for public presentation on May 19, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The event is expected to attract prominent political leaders, military veterans, diplomats, and dignitaries from across the country.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the current President of Nigeria, will serve as the special guest of honor, while former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Minister of Defence Theophilus Danjuma will officiate the unveiling of the 881-page autobiography published by Havilah Group. The memoir chronicles Gowon's life and leadership journey, reflecting key moments in Nigeria's history, including the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970.

Gowon clarified that the book is not intended to revive painful memories but to provide a present perspective on events often interpreted differently by others. Lanr Adesuyi, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Havilah Group, described the autobiography as a significant contribution to Nigeria's historical record and national discourse.
