UAG Criticizes Amnesty's Report on Military Detention Deaths

The United Advocacy Group (UAG), a non-partisan advocacy organization, has condemned a report by Amnesty International that claims 150 members of the Fulani community, including children, died in a military-controlled detention facility in Kwara State. In a statement signed by its convenor, Ifeanyi Aigbedion, on Tuesday, UAG urged Nigerians to disregard the report, asserting that it inflames ethnic tensions and undermines national security.

The group lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their long-standing record of professionalism and respect for human rights, particularly during domestic operations and international peacekeeping assignments. UAG emphasized that the claims circulating widely on social media remain unverified and should not be treated as established facts until properly investigated by competent authorities.

The organization warned that the dissemination of unconfirmed reports risks inflaming ethnic tensions and undermining national cohesion at a time when unity is essential. UAG called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the allegations to ensure credible findings are made public.
