House of Reps Passes Bill to Boost SSDC Funding

A coalition of activists has commended the House of Representatives and Hon. Julius Pondi, who represents Burutu Federal Constituency in Delta State, for the passage of a bill that seeks to enhance funding for the South South Development Commission (SSDC).

The bill, which has passed its second reading, is seen as a historic moment aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits and socio-economic challenges faced by communities in the South South region. The coalition, led by Lucki Ef, emphasized that the proposed legislation is a bold intervention that could accelerate development across the region.

They noted that improved funding would enhance the commission's capacity to execute critical development projects in areas such as road infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and environmental remediation. The coalition urged lawmakers in the National Assembly to support the bill in subsequent legislative stages to facilitate its eventual passage and implementation, which they believe will significantly improve the lives of millions in the South South region.
