Groups Reject Calls for Matawalle's Redeployment in Nigeria

Three groups, namely the Nigerian Muslim Congress, the Northern Elder Political Development Group, and the Youth Vanguard for Peace and Co-existence in Nigeria, issued a joint press statement on Thursday condemning calls for the redeployment of Mohammed Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence. The groups described these demands as inappropriate and an intrusion into Nigeria's internal affairs, particularly in light of comments made by U.S. lawmaker Kimberli Daniel regarding Nigeria's security management.

They asserted that the management of Nigeria's security architecture is the exclusive responsibility of the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The statement highlighted Matawalle's valuable experience in handling security challenges in Zamfara State, particularly concerning banditry.

The groups criticized the unfair targeting of individuals for Nigeria's long-standing security issues, emphasizing that these problems are multifaceted and should not be attributed solely to the current administration.
