Guardiola Defends Man City Spending, Challenges Rivals Amid Transfer Criticism

Pep Guardiola, the current manager of Manchester City, defended the club's transfer spending against critics, emphasizing that City ranks seventh in net spending in the Premier League over the last five years despite being one of the top clubs. Guardiola sarcastically pointed out that six other clubs have spent more money than City in the 2021-22 season.

He highlighted City's purchases of players like Antoin Semenyo and Marc Guehi for a total of £84 million in January. Guardiola mentioned the club's overall expenditure of £442.9 million in the last three transfer windows, offset by player sales like Nolito in July.

The manager also joked about not being the top spender in the league and defended City's recruitment strategy. Additionally, Guardiola referenced the departure of captain Bernardo Silva due to contract changes.
