Rival Cult Clash at Rivers University During Carnival

On August 12, 2024, a violent confrontation occurred between rival cult groups, the KK klans and Vikings confraternities, at a Rivers State university during the institution's Jean Carnival. This incident has heightened concerns regarding cult-related violence in educational institutions.

Sources indicated that the clash stemmed from a struggle for territorial control, with both groups allegedly bringing in external members to bolster their ranks. Although no casualties were reported, this incident marks a shift from previous confrontations primarily involving Vikings and Black Axe members.

Rivers State Police spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the incident, stating that police responded promptly and managed to control the situation without firing shots. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the clash.

The university has experienced recurring cult-related violence over the past two years, with a notable incident on August 12, 2024, involving Black Axe and Vikings, which left a student in a coma.
