Guzape Residents Demand Urgent Action Against Flooding

Residents of Guzape, a locality in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are urgently calling for emergency intervention as they face severe flooding following heavy rains, as forecasted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). On the morning of Wednesday, 12th August 2026, Dr. Jones Ekpa's family experienced flooding in their home, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira, including cars and perimeter fencing.

Dr. Ekpa attributed the flooding to the negligence of some neighbors and urged relevant emergency agencies to assist his family and others affected. Investigations revealed that blocked waterways, often due to the activities of iron and steel scavengers, have exacerbated the flooding situation.

Additionally, some property owners have failed to install drainage facilities, worsening the impact on neighboring homes. With forecasts of heavier rains in the coming weeks, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) and the FCT Emergency Management Agency are urged to take proactive measures to protect residents.
