Timaya, a Nigerian singer known for his hit "Dem Mama," has ignited debate with his recent comments regarding marriage and parenthood. In a viral video, he expressed the opinion that having children out of wedlock is better than marriage, asserting that "marriage thing no dey work." His remarks were made while advising fellow artist Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboi, and Phyno, who recently welcomed a child.

Timaya, who is a father of four children from three different women, includes daughters Emmanuella Grace and Barbara Fumnaya Nwaokolo, and sons Emmanuel Tamar and Maya Dunni Onasanya. During an interview with Naija FM in 2024, he revealed that he is currently unmarried at 40 and has drawn a line on marriage, although he hinted that his stance might change in the future.
