Reno Omokri Honors Olu Jacobs as a National Icon

On September 16, Reno Omokri, Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, mourned the passing of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84. Omokri described Jacobs as "a National Icon and a source of pride for Nigeria," celebrating his extraordinary career as a trailblazer among Nigerian actors.

He noted Jacobs' training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and his successful transition from theatre to television and film, including appearances in British series during a time when such achievements were rare for Nigerian performers. Omokri compared Jacobs to his mentor, the late Chief Hubert Ogunde, recognizing them as foundational figures in Nigerian cinema.

He acknowledged Jacobs' extensive work in the 1970s and 1980s, including roles alongside Christopher Walken and in Roman Polanski's productions. Omokri expressed condolences to Jacobs' wife, fellow performer Joke Silva, and their children, while also noting Jacobs' receipt of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) honor during his lifetime.
