Olu Jacobs Remembered: Tributes Flow After Actor's Death

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Olu Jacobs passed away at the age of 84, with the announcement made by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, on September 16. The family requested privacy as they mourn his loss.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid tribute, calling Jacobs “an institution” and a “cultural icon,” emphasizing his impact on Nigeria's film industry even before Nollywood's rise. Atiku expressed condolences to Jacobs' wife, actress Joke Silva, and their children.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo described Jacobs as a “consummate actor” and a “legend of the stage.” Other entertainers, including Funke Akindele, Williams Uchemba, and Ini Edo, also honored Jacobs, recalling his kindness and support for young talents. Akindele noted that Jacobs' legacy would never be forgotten.
