Delta State Government Cracks Down on Health Workers Extorting Pregnant Women

The Delta State Government has dismissed and demoted health workers found guilty of extorting pregnant women despite the state's free healthcare policy. Commissioner of Health, Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this during the launch of the Maternal Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiatives Project in Ashaka, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

Onojaeme stated that some health workers were sabotaging the government's efforts by collecting illegal fees for drugs and billing the government for services already provided. Several workers have been demoted or lost their jobs as a result.

The commissioner urged residents to report any erring officials and provided a hotline for complaints.
