Healthhaven Launches Insurance for Nigerian Diaspora Visitors

Opeyemi Okunbor, a trained dental surgeon and current Chief Executive Officer of Healthhaven, is spearheading a new initiative to tackle healthcare insurance challenges faced by the Nigerian diaspora returning home. The startup, which is set to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in January 2025, aims to provide short-term healthcare insurance tailored specifically for Nigerians visiting from overseas.

Okunbor highlighted that many Nigerians living abroad arrive in Nigeria financially unprepared for medical emergencies, often lacking adequate insurance coverage. Healthhaven plans to deploy flexible technology to create insurance packages that cater to the duration of stay and specific healthcare needs of these visitors.

The startup will introduce four insurance categories: Haven Basic, Haven Plus, Haven Premium, and Haven Elite. Okunbor emphasized the importance of data science and artificial intelligence in healthcare delivery and aims to improve patient safety and continuity of care through innovative solutions, including blockchain-enabled health records and AI-powered triage systems.
