NEMA Issues Heatwave Warning for Fire and Health Risks

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning regarding the heightened risk of fire disasters and health challenges in Nigeria due to a prevailing heatwave. In a statement released on Saturday, NEMA's Director General, Zubaida Umar, represented by Manzo Ezekiel, cautioned that the rising daily temperatures across various parts of the country increase the likelihood of fire incidents and health complications.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has confirmed that these elevated temperatures are expected to persist. NEMA advises citizens to handle materials that can easily trigger fires with caution, particularly during extreme heat conditions.

Households and businesses are urged to ensure safe use of electrical appliances and proper storage of flammable substances. Additionally, NEMA emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

The agency encourages communities to report fire outbreaks promptly and remain attentive to weather forecasts and safety advisories.
