EFCC Blocks Contractor from Installing Fake Power Lines

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), disclosed that the commission intervened to stop a contractor from mobilizing to install fake and substandard transmission lines for a project under the Ministry of Power. This intervention was crucial to prevent potential disasters and loss of lives, as the EFCC's investigation revealed that the contractor had imported fake transmission lines.

Following the investigation, the EFCC wrote to the Ministry of Power to blacklist the contractor. Olukoyede assured a delegation from the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (MEMSA), led by Chief Executive Officer Olusegun Adesayo, of the EFCC's readiness to collaborate to improve electricity supply and ensure compliance with regulations in the power sector.

The EFCC emphasized the importance of safeguarding public infrastructure and aligning with the federal government's anti-corruption agenda, especially amid growing concerns over substandard materials in Nigeria's power sector.
