CS-SUNN: Kaduna Needs ₦599B for Child Nutrition Funding

The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) reported that Kaduna state faces a nutrition financing gap that could jeopardize efforts to reduce child mortality and malnutrition. The state requires an additional ₦599 billion investment to achieve projected health gains from 2026 to 2030.
This investment could potentially save approximately 98,894 under-five children and reduce stunting while enhancing long-term human capital. CS-SUNN Communication Manager Olushola Peters presented these findings during a media engagement on domestic nutrition financing in Kaduna.
The report indicated that every ₦1 invested in nutrition could yield about ₦5 in economic value. However, it raised concerns about the implementation of nutrition budgets, which averaged only 42.5% performance.
Peters emphasized the importance of tracking the entire financing chain, from budget appropriation to actual expenditure, to ensure government commitments translate into services for women and children. The report also highlighted the need for sustained financing for critical nutrition interventions.
