Uba Sani Prioritizes Nutrition for Kaduna's Future Development

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has identified nutrition as a crucial element of his administration's development agenda, emphasizing its role in enabling children to reach their full potential. At the Women In Power Conference 2026, Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Balarabe, a medical doctor, stated that well-nourished children have better opportunities for growth, learning, and survival.

She noted that investing in nutrition is an investment in the future of the state and the country. During the June 2026 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week, Kaduna achieved 82% Vitamin A supplementation coverage and 79% coverage for Mid-Upper Arm Circumference screening.

In 2025, 30,089 children were treated for severe acute malnutrition through the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition program. Dr Balarabe urged states to focus on nutrition financing, asserting that effective policies require predictable resources and accountability.

The new Kaduna State 2026–2030 Food and Nutrition Policy aims to strengthen coordination and integrate nutrition into government planning and budgeting.
