Survivor Reveals Aunt's Role in Ghana Sex Trafficking

Regina, an 18-year-old girl from Plateau State, Nigeria, shared her traumatic experience of being sold into sex slavery by her aunt, who is her mother's younger sister. After losing her father at age 10, Regina's mother, a widow, agreed to let her aunt take Regina to Lagos with the promise of better educational opportunities.

However, upon arrival, Regina discovered her aunt's true intentions to sell her into sex slavery. Initially taken to Burkina Faso, she was forced into prostitution before being moved to Ghana.

Regina's ordeal began in December 2024 after she completed secondary school, with her aunt convincing her mother to sponsor her education. The aunt portrayed a wealthy lifestyle, leading Regina to trust her.

After being drugged and raped, Regina eventually regained consciousness and was later rescued by NAPTIP, which tracks young girls and their families. Her story highlights the severe issue of human trafficking in Nigeria.
