Obasanjo-Atiku Feud Splits ADC Opposition Coalition

The conflict between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar is identified as a key factor in the disintegration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition. Sources within the ADC and Kwankwasiyya Movement revealed that Obasanjo's failure to prevent Atiku's candidacy for the ADC presidential ticket initiated the party's division.

A principal ADC officer stated that Obasanjo instructed party leaders to reject Atiku's candidacy to secure his support. Following this, Peter Obi's supporters began advocating for an "Obi or nobody" stance, leading to internal turbulence.

As Obi's departure from the ADC became imminent, ADC National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola attempted to persuade Obasanjo to intervene. However, Obasanjo maintained that Obi could only stay if Atiku was excluded from the ticket.

Obi officially left the ADC on May 3, citing internal crises and the need for national progress. Insiders indicated that Obasanjo played a significant role in Obi's exit, positioning himself as a guiding figure in Obi's political movements.
