Nigeria Simplifies Tax ID Application Process for Bank Accounts

The Nigerian government, through the Fiscal Policy Tax Reform Committee chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, has released guidelines for obtaining Tax ID Numbers, a requirement for bank account operations starting January 1, 2026. The Tax ID will replace multiple identification numbers, streamlining the process for taxpayers.

Existing Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) remain valid, and unregistered businesses can use their Personal Tax ID for banking purposes. The reform aims to reduce tax evasion and improve compliance.
