Nigeria Launches ESSVerify Portal for Credential Verification

The Nigerian Federal Government has introduced the ESSVerify portal, a fully automated system designed for the online verification of academic credentials. This initiative aims to eliminate the stress associated with physical visits for document verification.

Users must create an account to access the portal, where they can submit documents for authentication and track their application status. It is crucial that users upload clear and complete scans of their documents, as blurred or incomplete submissions will delay the process.

The portal requires that transcripts be sent directly from educational institutions, with a verification fee of N4,000 per page. Users are advised to budget accordingly, especially for multi-page transcripts.

The system currently covers federal universities and polytechnics, with plans for further onboarding. Folasad Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations, highlighted that this initiative is part of the government's broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving data management in the education sector.
