UBEC Unlocks N100bn Grants for Basic Education Digitization

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), led by Hajia Aisha Garba, has successfully unlocked over N100 billion in previously unaccessed matching grants for basic education through digitization. This announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the 29th quarterly meeting of UBEC management and state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) chairmen in Abuja.

The initiative aims to reinforce stronger coordination strategies using data across 30 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to draw down basic education funds. Garba emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving needs of state basic education systems and revealed that the revised matching grant guidelines have been finalized to streamline transparency and ensure that every Nigerian child reaches their full academic potential.

The ongoing efforts have already benefited 8.7 million learners, improving learning conditions and instructional materials for 244,000 teachers. The focus remains on enhancing digital literacy and pedagogical skills to improve classroom delivery and educational outcomes.
