UBEC Allocates N5.18bn for School Infrastructure Projects

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has earmarked N5.18 billion for school infrastructure improvements and has released N434.5 million as the final tranche of support for ongoing projects nationwide. Dr.

Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, disclosed this information on Thursday in Abuja. The funding will benefit 11,484 ongoing projects across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), focusing on minor infrastructure rehabilitation, classroom construction, and the provision of essential facilities such as water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The initiative is part of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) School Improvement Programme (SIP), which aims to enhance community participation in education and improve access to quality basic education. The program is expected to attract 400,000 children back to school.

Additionally, a learner retention program targeting one million learners across eight states has been launched, with a budget of N5 billion. This initiative aligns with Nigeria's commitment to sustainable development goals in education.
