U.S. Blockade Forces Ships to Turn Around Near Iran

The U.S. blockade on Iran, which began fully on Monday, has resulted in vessels turning around in the Persian Gulf. Adm.

Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, stated that the blockade aims to halt economic trade with Iran, putting significant pressure on the Iranian economy.

During the first 48 hours of the blockade, nine vessels complied with orders to turn back toward Iranian ports. U.S. officials, speaking anonymously, noted that the blockade is enforced impartially against vessels entering or leaving Iranian coastal areas.

The blockade has raised concerns about the safety of maritime navigation, with a reported 90% drop in ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil supply. The blockade's enforcement has also led to increased oil prices and warnings of higher inflation.

Additionally, there are reports of Iranian-linked tankers attempting to transit the Strait, only to reverse course due to the blockade.
