Yobe Residents Unite to Build Emir's Palace in Potiskum

The Emir of Potiskum, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, recounted the communal effort that led to the construction of the Emir's Palace after the old one became dilapidated. This initiative began shortly after he ascended the throne in 1994, following a challenge from the state government for newly appointed emirs to build palaces.

Rather than relying solely on government funding, he encouraged community ownership of the project. Youths mobilized to raise approximately N1.5 million, complemented by a government grant of N3.5 million, which he combined into a project account.

Elders contributed construction materials, and a female architect volunteered her design services. The palace, completed through these collective efforts, stands as a symbol of unity in the emirate.

The Emir emphasized that the project was not for personal legacy but aimed at strengthening the institution of the emirate, highlighting the importance of leadership in serving the community.
