Webb Confirms Man City Goal Against Man United Wrongly Allowed

Howard Webb, the Premier League referees’ chief, admitted that Manchester City's goal scored by Erling Haaland against Manchester United should have been disallowed. The goal was allowed despite Enzo Fernandes being in an offside position, which impacted the play.

VAR officials Alex Donohue and Richard Antrobus failed to identify this offside while focusing on whether Haaland was onside, which he was by three centimeters. Webb stated that the VAR officials developed "tunnel vision" and did not properly assess Fernandes' position.

He expressed disappointment over the oversight and confirmed that the goal should have been disallowed. Additionally, Webb defended the decision to issue a red card to Manchester City forward Phil Foden for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes, stating that Fernandes' earlier action was more petulant than violent and warranted a yellow card instead.

He noted that if Foden's dismissal had been reviewed at the pitchside monitor, Fernandes would have received a yellow card.
