Ex-NFF Chiefs Propose 6-Month Normalisation Committee

On Tuesday, former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presidents, secretaries-general, football stakeholders, and sports journalists convened in Abuja to address the leadership crisis in Nigerian football. They urged FIFA and CAF officials to establish a six-month Normalisation Committee aimed at overhauling the country's football administration prior to new elections.

Key figures at the meeting included former NFF presidents Sani Abdullahi Lulu and Aminu Maigari, along with other notable stakeholders. The group presented a joint position paper indicating that Nigeria's football issues stem from structural weaknesses rather than isolated failures.

Their proposed roadmap includes stakeholder consultations, local football council elections, an expanded NFF Congress, and new NFF leadership elections. They also called for a review of the NFF's voting structure to enhance representation for various football sectors.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of governance structures to prevent repeating past mistakes.
