Peter Obi Claims 2023 Win Without Governor Support

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a candidate from the Nigerian Democratic Congress, asserted that he won the 2023 presidential election without the support of any governors. In an interview with NoireTV, he dismissed concerns regarding the increasing number of governors backing Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi emphasized that governors do not determine electoral outcomes, citing his performance in the 2023 presidential election as evidence of popular support. He noted that he secured victories in 12 states despite allegations of being deprived of victories in two states during the election.

Obi maintained that the focus for the 2027 elections should be on the welfare of Nigerians rather than political alliances, highlighting issues such as hunger, insecurity, education, and healthcare. He stated that the tribal, ethnic, or religious affiliations would not be significant issues, but rather the welfare of the people should take precedence.
