Peter Obi Claims Tinubu's Government Blocking 2027 Candidacy

Peter Obi, a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Anambra State, stated that the government of President Bola Tinubu is attempting to obstruct his candidacy for the 2027 presidential elections. Obi made this assertion during a guest lecture at the NextGen Mentorship Leadership Initiative program at Madonna University in Okija, Anambra State.

He expressed confidence that these efforts would not deter his political ambitions, asserting that he is focused on ensuring Nigeria functions effectively rather than on personal political aspirations. Obi called for public debates, including with President Tinubu, and emphasized the importance of voter participation, urging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote.

He also addressed issues of insecurity in Nigeria, pledging to tackle crime if given the opportunity to lead. Obi criticized elements within the government that he believes are undermining democracy and urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and committed to democratic values.
