Patience Akpabio, the wife of former Senate President Godswill Akpabio, declared her intention to unseat Akpabio in the 2027 elections for the Akwa Ibom North West Senate seat. Claiming to have been duly elected ahead of the poll, she boldly announced her candidacy on Facebook.

Akpabio, known for his political background and evangelical ties, lost his seat in the 2019 election to Dr. Chris Ekpenyong, who later reclaimed it in 2023.
