Global Air Cargo Demand Grows 3.9% in July 2026

In July 2026, global air cargo demand increased by 3.9% year-on-year, as reported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The growth was primarily driven by airlines in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, which accounted for over 90% of the overall increase.

Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres, rose 3.9% compared to July 2025, with international operations experiencing stronger growth at 4.7%. Capacity also saw a year-on-year rise of 1.7%, while international capacity increased by 1.8%.

Marie Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Chief Economist, stated that the outlook for air cargo remains broadly positive, supported by manufacturing activity and export orders, despite challenges such as rising fuel prices and geopolitical tensions. The report noted that global trade increased by 7.5% year-on-year, aiding air cargo demand.

North American carriers recorded the highest growth at 4.8%, while African airlines showed the weakest performance.
