ICEED Urges Stronger MRV Systems for Clean Cooking Finance

The International Centre for Energy and Environmental Development (ICEED) convened a high-level workshop in Abuja on Tuesday to advocate for stronger Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to enhance clean cooking finance in Nigeria. Ewah Otu Eleri, Executive Director of ICEED, emphasized the urgency of Nigeria's clean cooking transition, which is critical due to the country's reliance on solid biomass for cooking, leading to significant public health issues, gender inequality, deforestation, and climate change impacts.

Dr. Iniobong Aw, Director of Climate Change at the Federal Ministry of Environment, commended ICEED for organizing the workshop, noting the critical timing as Nigeria intensifies efforts to implement its clean cooking policies.

The workshop aimed to align MRV frameworks with national development priorities and identify gaps in the current MRV landscape, focusing on improving data systems and stakeholder coordination to unlock access to carbon markets and climate finance for clean cooking projects.
