ICPC Discovers Wiretapping Devices in El-Rufai's Home

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has found wiretapping devices in the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The ICPC obtained a court order to detain El-Rufai for 14 days to facilitate ongoing investigations into various corruption allegations, including a suspicious payment of 1.4 million and a total of N2.1 billion transferred to undisclosed accounts.

The search, conducted in the presence of El-Rufai's wife, Hadiza, and son, Mohammed, revealed sensitive security documents and electronic equipment capable of tapping phone conversations. El-Rufai's legal team has claimed his detention is unlawful and politically motivated, but the ICPC insists that all actions have followed due legal process.

The commission has also stated that El-Rufai has declined to cooperate with the investigation, refusing to grant access to the seized equipment. The detention order will expire on March 5, 2026, at which point the ICPC plans to draw charges against him.
