ICPC Recovers Wiretapping Device from El-Rufai's Home

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recovered a suspected wiretapping device from the residence of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in Abuja. This action was part of an investigation into multiple corruption allegations against El-Rufai, including the disappearance of N1.4 million and 180 suspicious payments totaling N2,158,799,199 linked to Kaduna State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account.

During the search, El-Rufai was present alongside his wife, Hadiza El-Rufai, and son, Moham Bello. The former governor has chosen to remain silent regarding the investigation until formal arraignment, claiming that he was advised to flee the country.

El-Rufai is also seeking legal redress in the Federal High Court, challenging what he describes as unlawful detention and a violation of his fundamental human rights. The ICPC obtained a 14-day detention order from a magistrate court in Bwari, which is set to expire on Thursday, and has urged the Federal High Court to reject El-Rufai's application.
