IGP Seeks Dismissal of El-Rufai's N1bn Suit Over Search

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has filed a request with the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a N1 billion fundamental rights suit initiated by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The suit concerns a search conducted at El-Rufai's residence on Mambilla Street, Asokoro, Abuja, which he claims violated his constitutional rights.

El-Rufai is challenging the legality of the search warrant issued on February 4 by a Chief Magistrate in Abuja, arguing that it was poorly drafted and lacked sufficient detail. He alleges that the search, carried out on February 19, was unconstitutional and caused him emotional distress and reputational damage.

The IGP contends that the search was lawful, supported by a valid warrant, and necessary for ongoing investigations. The court proceedings were adjourned until March 25, with the judge directing that notices be served to the Chief Magistrate and the Attorney General of the Federation.
