IGP Seeks Dismissal of El-Rufai's ₦1 Billion Suit

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. El-Rufai's suit alleges that a search conducted by law enforcement agents at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja, violated his fundamental rights.

He seeks damages for the alleged infringement. In a counter affidavit, the IGP defended the police's actions, asserting that the search was conducted based on a valid warrant issued by a competent court and was executed in accordance with relevant legal procedures.

The IGP accused El-Rufai of attempting to use the suit to shield himself from ongoing investigations and potential prosecution for criminal offenses. During the court proceedings on Thursday, El-Rufai's counsel, Ubong Akpan, informed the court that they had not yet filed a response to the IGP's counter affidavit.

The case has been adjourned until March 25 for further hearing.
