IGP Disu and INEC Chairman Discuss 2027 Election Security

On Wednesday, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu of the Nigeria Police Force and Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), convened a strategic meeting at INEC headquarters in Abuja. The meeting aimed to strengthen security arrangements for the upcoming 2027 elections, addressing current national security concerns.

Participants included members of the force management team and senior INEC officials from various regions, along with senior officers from the Nigeria Police Force. Discussions centered on developing a robust security framework for electoral activities, particularly for the Ekiti and Osun off-cycle governorship elections and forthcoming bye-elections.

Professor Amupitan emphasized the necessity for proactive security plans and specialized training for electoral personnel to ensure the participation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities (PWDs) without fear of intimidation. IGP Disu described the engagement as critical for democratic stability and assured that the police force would operate strictly within the constitutional framework, committing to a safe electoral environment.
