IIM Global Network Advocates for Ethical AI Governance

The IIM Global Network held its 2026 annual conference in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where stakeholders discussed the importance of ethical frameworks in artificial intelligence (AI) and data governance. Oyedokun Ayodeji Oyewol, the International President and Chairman of IIM Africa, highlighted the necessity for transparency and accountability in AI technology to foster public trust amid the digital economy's rapid evolution.

The conference featured a keynote address and examined the risks and opportunities associated with AI adoption. Ayodhya Wathug from Southern Cross University presented a paper on the gap between AI ethical principles and their practical implementation across industries.

She argued that while AI ethical frameworks exist, they often remain aspirational rather than actionable. Wathug emphasized the need for organizations to genuinely commit to trustworthy AI by integrating ethical standards into their operational culture.

The conference also included a panel session moderated by Scott Spenc, focusing on strategic program delivery across Queensland.
