Ikeja Court Adjourns Joseph Ufoma's Bail Hearing in Fraud Case

The Ikeja High Court has adjourned the bail hearing for businessman Joseph Ufoma, who is facing charges of economic and financial crimes linked to a $1.5 million oil fraud. The hearing was initially scheduled for March 31, 2026, but was postponed when lead defense counsel Olawal Akoni, SAN, sought to move the bail application in absentia.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Babatunde Sonoiki, informed the court that Ufoma has multiple cases pending in Abuja and Lagos and is expected to face further charges from the Nigeria Police and Interpol. The EFCC cited logistical constraints in producing the defendant in court.

Ufoma reportedly became a fugitive after being granted administrative bail, which he allegedly failed to honor. The court adjourned the matter to April 13, 2026, to allow sufficient time for the defense to prepare.
