Oyo pupil recounts 56-day kidnapping ordeal, vows to return

Bello Hassan, a 15-year-old pupil, was among those abducted in a raid on a school in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State, on May 15. He recounted his 56-day ordeal in captivity after being rescued on July 10.

During his time with the kidnappers, Hassan described being forced to trek daily to their hideout and living under strict conditions, although he stated that the captors did not physically assault them. He mentioned that the kidnappers communicated in English and Hausa and imposed strict rules, including not allowing them to play.

Hassan also noted that two teachers, identified as Mr. Michael and Deacon, were killed during the abduction, although he did not witness the killings.

After his rescue, he was admitted to Lautech Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso for medical evaluation and psychological support. Despite the traumatic experience, Hassan expressed his determination to return to school, stating, "I’m not afraid to return to school.".
