Eight Killed in Armed Attack on Benue Community

In the early hours of Sunday, shortly after the burial of Mr. Adaj Okoh, an octogenarian, armed assailants attacked the Otukpo community in Benue State, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to five others.

The Benue State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Udem Edet, reported that the attack involved gunfire that led to the casualties and the burning of thatched houses and motorcycles. Following the incident, Commissioner Cletu Nwadiogbu dispatched a tactical team to restore law and order and prevent further violence.

The injured victims were taken to medical facilities in Otukpo, while the deceased were deposited at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo. The police condemned the attack and assured the community of their commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible.

Additional tactical operations were deployed in vulnerable areas, and the police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
