Nigerian Stars Amusan and Ajayi Shine Ahead of C’wealth Games

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, is among the Nigerian stars to watch ahead of the Commonwealth Games. She opened the 2026 season by winning her fourth consecutive African title in Accra and has demonstrated exceptional form, finishing third in Shanghai and second in Xiamen.

Amusan clocked a season-best time of 12.28 seconds in Rabat and broke her own meet record with a time of 12.45 seconds. She also claimed gold in New Taipei with a time of 12.72 seconds, despite facing a headwind.

Ajayi, another standout athlete, made headlines at the NCAA East Region Championship, setting a new personal best of 43.82 seconds in the 400m, placing him atop the global rankings for 2026. His performance, alongside Amusan's, showcases Nigeria's strong potential in athletics as they prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
