Ijaw National Congress Inaugurates New Executive Council

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) held the inauguration of its 9th National Executive Council on April 14, 2021, at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. High Chief Macdonald Igbadiwei was elected as president, with Dr.

Okubokem Tuodolo, Rose Obuoforibo, Kennedi Odiowei, and Dr. Ayan Kio serving as vice presidents and secretary, respectively.

This event marked the end of Prof. Benjamin Okaba's five-year tenure.

The INC, established in 1991, aims to foster Ijaw national consciousness and address environmental challenges, particularly those related to oil extraction. During the inauguration, Igbadiwei emphasized the need for unity and progress within the Ijaw nation, urging the new leadership to consolidate the achievements of the previous executive.

The election was conducted on April 13, 2021, with 600 delegates participating from across the Ijaw nation.
