El-Rufai Urges Nigeria's Reset at 65: Calls for Electoral Reforms and Governance Overhaul

Speaking in Owerri, he highlighted the country's democratic progress since 1999 but warned of persistent fragility, citing issues like poverty, youth unemployment, inflation, and public debt as threats to national stability.

El-Rufai stressed the decline in citizen participation in elections and advocated for electoral reforms, including the adoption of electronic voting systems. He pointed to Kaduna's successful use of technology in local government polls as a model for enhancing transparency and public trust in the electoral process.
