Governor Fubara Cancels Independence Day Parade Following Tinubu's Action - Federal Government Criticized

Governor Fubara of Rivers State canceled the Independence Day parade following a similar decision by the federal government after Tinubu's action. The cancellation was announced by Dede, the permanent secretary of the special service bureau.

This move came after President Bola Tinubu's pronouncement led to the cancellation of the military parade on June 12. The Rivers government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused.

The federal government had earlier announced the cancellation of the parade, with the Secretary to the Government Federation emphasizing the commitment to celebrating Nigeria's 65th independence anniversary. The decision was met with criticism, including from Lauretta Onochie, a former appointee of late President Muhammadu Buhari.
