Sanwo-Olu Calls for Unity and Hope on Independence Day

On September 28, 2026, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called on Nigerians to respond to the country's challenges with renewed faith, responsible citizenship, and collective action during an inter-denominational service at the Chapel of Christ the Light in Ikeja, commemorating Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the mixed journey of progress and challenges since independence but emphasized the nation's resilience as a reason for optimism.

He highlighted Nigeria's human and natural resources, including its youthful population and entrepreneurial spirit, as vital for national development. Sanwo-Olu stressed that building the country requires individual commitment and urged religious institutions to complement prayers with practical efforts for responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence.

He asserted that the theme of the anniversary service, "A Nation of Hope, Healing and Revival," reflects the aspirations of the people, and he reiterated the importance of believing in Nigeria's potential for a brighter future.
