Hayatu-Deen Advocates for Stronger Institutions at 25th Anniversary

At the 25th anniversary celebration of Independent Newspapers, held in Lagos, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former presidential aspirant of the People's Democratic Party, called for the establishment of stronger institutions in Nigeria. He described the milestone as a testament to the resilience of the profession and its commitment to democratic values.

Hayatu-Deen commended Independent Newspapers for its vital role in documenting Nigeria's history and shaping public discourse, urging the media to uphold its core duties of informing and holding leaders accountable. He outlined three key pillars necessary for national progress: strong institutions, economic trust, and accountability in governance.

He emphasized that trust must be built through fair and consistent governance, which is essential for national cohesion. Hayatu-Deen concluded by stating that Nigeria's challenges do not stem from a lack of potential but from the need to align human and institutional resources towards a shared national vision.
