Luis de la Fuente Leads Spain to 2026 World Cup Victory

Luis de la Fuente, the 65-year-old head coach of the Spain National Football Team, guided La Roja to a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. This victory marks de la Fuente as the 21st coach to win the FIFA World Cup, continuing the tradition that every World Cup-winning coach has managed their own national team.

De la Fuente's coaching career began in 1997, and he has held various positions, including coaching Spain's Under 19 and Under 21 teams, and leading Spain's Olympic team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He became head coach of the senior national team in 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique.

Under his leadership, Spain also won the UEFA European Championship in 2024. De la Fuente is now recognized as one of the greatest coaches in Spanish football history, joining Vicente del Bosque as the only Spanish coach to win the World Cup.
