Indonesia's Rescue Agency Confirms 10 Dead in Ship Capsize

Indonesia’s national rescue agency reported that 10 people have died and 125 remain missing following the capsizing of the passenger ship Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea on September 13. The vessel was carrying 243 individuals, including 30 crew members, on a journey from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan.

Divers have recovered four bodies, with the latest found on Sunday. Putu Sudayana, an official from the national rescue agency, stated that a remotely operated vehicle would be deployed to assist divers in the search inside the vessel, as strong currents have hindered operations.

The agency has decided to extend the recovery operation by one week due to the significant number of missing persons and the anticipated time required to salvage and right the ship.
